    Jordan Microfinance Council Discusses Future Plans, Introduces New Financial Alternatives

    AMMAN --- January 26, 2012 --- Under the patronage of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, microfinance organizations and members of the Jordan Microfinance Council held a workshop in the presence of representatives of the Global SEEP Network, a nonprofit network of over 120 international organizations that believe in the power of enterprise to reduce global poverty.

    The participants at the workshop addressed the future work plan of the Council and discussed the potential of introducing new products and financial alternatives that diversify the package of services provided to the poor and low-income people in a mechanism that meets their financing needs.

    During the workshop, Chairman of the Jordan Microfinance Council Mr. Mustafa Nassereddin stressed the necessity to expand the package of financial services provided by the Council’s members, taking into account the most important needs and financial substitutes to be provided for the target group in order to achieve the social objective of the microfinance sector and to contribute to the economic development.

    The participants highly commended the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in providing support to the sector in order to enhance quality and strengthen its role as it’s considered one of the main economic and financial pillars that contributes to the national economic process.

    Moreover, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation highlighted the role and efforts carried out by the microfinance sector to facilitate the provision of best financial services available in the highest level of transparency and accountability through the application of the best practices implemented worldwide.

    It is worth mentioning that the members of the Jordan Microfinance Council are the Jordanian Company for Financing Small Projects, Microfund for Women (non-profit organization), National Microfinance Bank, Middle East Micro Credit Company (MEMCo), the Al-Ahli Microfinance Company, Tamweelcom, and Cairo Amman Bank.
